CJ Iftikhar refuses to reach SHC by special helicopter

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry has arrived in Karachi to address the Sindh High Court Bar Association.

The CJ has been stayed at Karachi Airport Lounge and the sources said that he has rejected the government offer to reach at Sindh High Court by an special plane as the violence had erupted in the city and exchange of firing between the activists of rival parties was reported at Shahra-e-Faisal and in Malir.

The advocates said that could not reach the Karachi airport as all the main roads were closed by the administration as part of security measures for the CJ during his visit to the city.

According to advocate leaders, the CJ will stay in lounge at the airport till all the main routes leading to Sindh High Court are cleared.

A huge stage of 50x16 sq ft has been set up in the middle of SHC building staircase, while seating arrangements have been made for over 8,000 participants in three arteries running along the court compound.

Around 8,000 chairs have been arranged for lawyers, while rest of the seating arrangement has been made for sitting and retired judges of superior courts and judicial officers of the province.
