Eight people were killed and 45 injured on Saturday in violence which broke out ahead of a rally by the chief justice, a senior security official told AFP.
"Eight people have died, three in targeted shootings early today and five including a policeman in clashes between rival groups," the official said on condition of anonymity.
"Another 45 people are injured. Many of them suffered multiple bullet wounds."
