KARACHI: Private TV channels reported as many as 34 people have been killed in incidents across the city, and mobs have gathered in various areas, setting close to a dozen vehicles on fire. Public transport has become scarce, and the situation remains tense.
DawnNews quoted a Rangers spokesman as saying that during a search operation in North Karachi, weapons including rifles, pistols, repeaters as well as ammunition were recovered from the scene of a brutal exchange between two rival gangs.
He further stated that as many as 25 people have been arrested from the area.
The spokesman maintained the action was successful.
Meanwhile, APP reported that Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has taken notice of the violence and directed IG police to take strict action against ‘anti-social elements’ and ensure security of life and property of people at all cost.
Private TV channels have also reported that PM Gilani has requested a report to be prepared on the unrest.
